The bathroom series continues to intrigue me. This is Anastasia, she is not only graceful subject matter but also an incredibly intriguing human being with a rich cultural background. Lecture at FIT
I attended a very interesting lecture by a photographer called Katy Grannan at FIT last night. One of the images made in her series titled Mystic Lake is so tender and transient. Take a look. She will also speak again on Monday; March 30, 2009 6:30 PM at the Aperture Gallery (547 West 27th Street) Its a FREE lecture folks so it doesn't get any better than that.

New Work and thoughts
My favorite room in the apartment has been presenting endless fascination for my mind and eyes. As I continue to play with the possibilities in this extremely intimate space, I am realizing the potential it has is terrific. For my subjects and myself the space has become everything from naughty to sacred and from a spiritual confessional to a secret beauty parlour. It holds the mystery we all feel when we shower in other peoples bathrooms and the undeniable relief and relaxation that warm water brings no matter where you go. It's where you bear your scars with no fear and sing to yourself only to hear a reverb of your own voice, muffled through water, as your face gets distorted ... when a gentle stream runs over the soft curves of your face.
Inspired by Kutiman
Kutiman, takes samples of video clips from youtube, layers them and turns them into pieces of genius. I am currently addicted to this one. The syncopation of audio to video is great as well. Everyone's sample gets a plug! If you stick through the end of this song, he uses a sample from a Chopin piece and layers it with this woman's haunting voice. It's a very rewarding experience. Kudos to Kutiman.
Sikhs in America
A good friend and photographer Fiona Aboud has a brilliant and completed book project called Sikhs in America. I'm proud of her and her work. The subject matter is close to my heart, one of my closest friends growing up was a Sikh and to see light shed on the Sikh tradition and culture juxtaposed with the American lifestyle is great. Feast your eyes. Click on image to get to Fionas Blog!
