Nudage

I was recently selected to travel to Santader, Spain for an art Exhibit/festival titled Espacio Nudage. You can find out more about the event and how I came to be selected here.

I just wanted so give a quick shout to the fabulous team and experiences I had with everyone I met in Spain. Here is an image from the streets of Santander. A full description on the highlights, artists and organizers I met there will follow very shortly. In the mean time I will leave you with this image that I took on my way out of the city.

Cheers to Feature Shoot and others!

I learned about the incredible Berlin photographer, Amira Fritz through feature shoot and re-blogged about her work on my blog last November. This is how I came to discover, read and respect feature shoot for over a year.

I have been told by Stella Kramer and a few others that Feature shoot would be a good platform for the style of my imagery. To my complete joy, my new series Anastasia was recently featured on feature shoot. A big thanks to Alison Zavos for starting my 2011 off with a bang. Solo show in Los Angeles, Kopeikin Gallery

I am extremely thrilled to announce that 'Water' which is a culmination of two of my bodies of work will be on display January 8th through the 12th at Kopeikin Gallery in Los Angeles. I will be flying in directly from Mumbai to Los Angeles to attend this closing. And alongside smiles and good artwork, In order to celebrate the show, owner of the gallery the fabulous Mr. Paul Kopeikin is arranging for an Indian food truck to be present! It would be a treat to see you on Saturday night, return from my country and spend a few moments with you amongst my artwork!

100 Portraits 100 phtoographers; Fotoweek DC

Andy Adams, publisher of FlakPhoto recently teamed up with curator and Indie Photobook Library creator Larissa Leclair to create an exhibition at the Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington DC as part of FotoWeek DC 2010. They selected 100 portraits by 100 photographers who have been featured on Flak Photo, and the entire exhibition is available on his website. I was chosen to be in this line up and incredibly humbled by it. These images were projected on the Corcoran's Museum building during Fotoweek DC. Below is an image of what the projection looked like. I have nothing but the kindest of words to say about Andy Adams. Please continue to support flakphoto, a regularly visited blog by me, by following it on twitter and facebook. Many thanks to Larissa Leclair as well, I hope I get to meet you both in person some day!

The 100 portraits exhibit got a lot of shouts from many places but in particular I would like to thank Julie Grahame of acurator the online magazine. SAWCC

I've donated a piece in support of the South Asian Women's Creative Collective. They have a nice cocktail party/ reception to celebrate the opening for this on October 5th, Tuesday. The art is a mix of different mediums take a look at the thumbnails below.

PHOTOLUST: Group show in Seattle

I met Ann Pallesen, the Gallery Director of Photographic Centre North West at Review Santa Fe 2010 and Rafael Soldi when he co curated Select Gender, a show at Farmani Gallery earlier this year. It gives me great pleasure to get to associate with both of these kindred photo spirits together. Thanks Rafael for the lovely post on PCNW's blog and thankyou Ann for inviting me to participate with such a strong line up of names in this show. Both Ann and Rafael are incredible photographers themselves so please check out their works as well.

The opening for this show will be on October 2nd, Saturday in Seattle, Washington. Those of you who can manage to swing by and show support please do! Here is a list of people participating artists in this show to get you excited about being there.

Times of India

I got some noteworthy press in India a little while ago. The article appeared in Crest the Arts and Culture supplement of Times of India. Deepanjana who is a terrific writer on Arts in Mumbai was such a ball to work with. I realized i never posted on the Ishaara about it, so here goes. On another note by the way, the blog has come to be such a digital diary for me really.

If some important news isn't placed on the blog by me soon enough, I feel it finds a way to get lost in my life. I find it relieving once I've blogged about it though because I know it has now transformed to linkable information to be viewed, visited and shared just by one click. I never thought I would associate this much emotional attachment with a blog that I slowly nourish over time but now of course ,,, I'm just rambling.

News from the East & West

Humble apologies, my friends sometimes too much time goes by in between my posts. Between shooting some personal, some commercial work life takes over and well before you know it its been over a couple weeks!

I just wanted to say a big thanks to Nicole Pasulka who did a fantastic Interview of my work titled In the flow. A screen grab of the interview is below. Also I was just selected as a Critical Mass 2010 finalist. Critical Mass is a competition put on by Photolucida which is a contemporary photo organization is based in Portland, Oregon. Almost 600 entries this year pre screened by a hundred plus jurors lead to a finalist list of 175 which I was humbly included in. Those who continue on in the top 175 Finalists will have their work seen, and voted on, by over 200 jurors which will lead to a Top 50 list regarded as highly prestigious to be a part of. I am in the final round so wish me luck folks! At least 20 of these 175 people who got selected I personally know, love and think off highly! So it's a stiff competition to say the least.





Also I was honored to be invited by Ann Pallesen, the all too charming Gallery Director of PCNW, (Photographic Centre North West) for PhotoLust which is a photography fun raiser auction with a fantastic line up of artists! Keith Carter, Matthew Pillsbury, Daniel Shea, Joni Sternbach and Jock Sturges are in the show to name a random few... here is a link to the list of all invited artists for this show. If you live in Seattle, show some love for for the contemporary photo scene on October 2nd which is also incidentally the birth date of the great Mahatma Gandhi. Jelly Bean Dreams

This goes out to Jelly Bean! Mr. David Bram's adorable daughter also called Jelly Bean. Mr. and Mrs. Bram was a gracious hosts and their daughter adorably referred to as Jelly bean was as cute as a buttoned up shirt. Here are a couple of moments with Jelly Bean in Mr. Bram's backyard that gorgeously looks on to the Sandias in Albuquerque. Also Fraction Magazine Issue 16 from David Bram is out and shows off my friend David Laventi, a shout out to you brother!

Tear Sheet

Quick picture of a tear sheet that just came in from American Lawyer a magazine I shot for while I was in Mumbai. The shoot took place at the CNBC studios and these two lovely ladies were the hosts for a show called The Firm, the only existing show on corporate law in India. The show has great ratings and American Lawyer in the US decided to cover it. I got hired to shoot it for Photo Editor, Maggie Soladay who recently made an epic trip to India and you can see of here work here.

Sultry II

PDN EDU

Dear Jacqueline, besides the subscribers of Ishaara and passer by's who are lingering long enough to read. This post is for me and you. You have won the hearts of many, including the Photo Editor who had only initially decided to make the shower series a feature story. Pdn Edu informed me that this feature will consist of a 5 page interview story in the Spring 2010 issue of Pdn Edu. This year the focus was portraiture. Of course, I was thrilled! To add to the excitement I also just heard that they chose my image of you as a cover. Thank you for having faith in the series a lot earlier than most of the world jumped on to endorse it.
